The Municipality of Chinhoyi, together with the SPCA and other stakeholders, met on 28 July 2026 to strengthen measures aimed at addressing the increasing number of stray dogs in the city.
Discussions focused on enforcing municipal by-laws on dog licensing, illegal breeding, and ensuring dogs are properly confined within premises. Residents were urged to be responsible pet owners by licensing their dogs and preventing them from roaming freely.
The Municipality also highlighted its recent rabies vaccination campaign and ongoing dog census, which are helping to improve rabies prevention and responsible dog management.
Attention is being given to stray dog hotspots, including Hunyani, Mapako, St Ives, and the Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT), to enhance public safety and protect residents.
The Municipality remains committed to working with the SPCA, residents, and other stakeholders to promote responsible pet ownership and create a safer community for all.
